The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. The British racer, who took the title advantage from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City recently, topped the Australian by a mere 0.023s. Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before sprint qualifying scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT. The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, sitting with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his team ran a unique setup. Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, though minor, when he spun at the fourth corner soon after starting. Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before sliding over the run-off area, and was fortunate to get away with just a slight brush of the wall. The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the session, turning around through the fast downhill corner approaching the final bend on to the pit straight. Hamilton wrapped up in 19th place, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc. The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber P3, over half a second behind the Australian's time. The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
